Todays baby food adventure: sweet potatoes!
What you’ll need: sweet potatoes, water, microwave, bowl, hand mixer (or blender), ice cube trays, plastic bags, foil, knife, cutting board
Two mighty fine sweet potatoes, they were huge! I got them both for $2.09.
I washed the skin off on mine. Not sure it’s necessary since you will be peeling them, but oh well.
This is my handy, dandy, tater baker. You just slide the raw potato in the bag (no need to even poke it with a fork first), stick it in the microwave and you’ll have a perfect potato. If you don’t have one of these, get one. (; Or, just bake as you wish, microwave, oven, or even peel, dice and boil.
I did one at a time and it took around 10 minutes for each one.
Boy was that a hot potato when it came out of the microwave.
Slice in half.
Scoop out the potato. As soon as I started doing this the peeling just basically fell off.
It was sweet, literally. (; I felt like I didn’t waste any of the potato.
Scoop insides in a large bowl.
Add some water. It took about 2 cups to give me the consistency I wanted. You can add less or more, depending on what stage your baby is in.
Get out your hand mixer and start mixin’ away.
Mmm, sweet potato puree.
Start filling up those ice cube trays.
I really was impressed with how many cubes the one potato filled. After I finished with the second one I had nearly 40 ounces of sweet potatoes! 40 ounces for $2.09, that’s amazing. I feel like this is the best deal yet, and so far the easiest!
Foil and freeze.
Pop ‘em out and look at how pretty they are.
Label, bag and freeze. Be sure to use in a month. I hope your little one enjoys as much as mine does!
