When I’m at work, it’s never a good thing when I get a call from Maya and Maddox’s daycare. Ninty-nine percent of the time one of them is sick. And, since Maddox is the baby, more often than not, it’s him. So, at 10:00 AM when I saw the daycare number on my Caller ID at work, I immediately said, “uh oh.”
“Maddox is sick. He has a fever of 101, and he blew out of his diaper. We’re afraid he has the stomach bug that’s been going around with the older kids.”
“I’ll be right there.”
He fussed on the way home, but Maya kept him entertained most of the way. Then we had a little bit of lunch, he only had toast and rice cereal, I didn’t really want him throwing up on me. Or, throwing up, period. Ew.
After lunch, I decided to give these salt dough ornamentsĀ a try. Danielle told me about them and I knew Maya would love helping. (Don’t worry, I’ll blog about how to make them soon!)
Then it was naptime, I gave Maddox some Tylenol and laid him down. He was asleep for about 30 minutes, which was just long enough for me to convince Maya to take a nap. I went in with a bottle and rocked him to sleep. Every time I tried to lay him back down he’d cry. So, I got in an hour and a half of cuddle time before Maya woke up. I love cuddles, one reason I love when my kids are sick.
After nap both kids were in great moods, so I decided to give Christmas pictures a shot. I got them both dressed up and I set up a mini studio and clicked away…
I actually got a few great shots too!
After a bottle and a few more cuddles for Maddox it was time to paint the salt dough ornaments. I wondered if I was really pressing my luck. I sat up the booster seat for Maddox so he could watch Maya and got all of the paint ready…
Maya painted.
And Maddox did too. Alright, so most of the time he played with Cheerios and a bowl (see the bowl behind his back, I wondered where that went).
Even though I was worried about Maddox throwing up on me (thank goodness he never did), it was a great day spent with the kids. I mean, who wouldn’t love when their kids were sick? Especially if they got to do fun things like this when they were?
