A mom’s opinion about the Penn State sex scandal
About 9:30 last night I was scrolling through my twitter feed and I noticed a few more tweets about Penn State. I’d been seeing them since Monday, but never stopped to google, or even click on a link. It seemed to be football related, and well, we all know about how much I loooove (insert sarcasm) football.
So I thought it wasn’t a big deal. Then I saw this tweet from 313Nick:
And I thought, what the heck? This has to do with child abuse?!?
So I asked Preston, “What’s the deal with Penn State?”
Preston: WHAT? Kendra! You haven’t heard what’d going on at Penn State? It’s sickening, seriously, you probably won’t want to read the Grand Jury Report.
Then he went on to explain what was going on.
My heart sunk, I almost started crying for those innocent little boys. I was furious at that jerk Jerry Sandusky. How could he do this to these little boys? He deserved jail and a whole lot more.
And then I wanted to punch every single one of those Penn State faculty members, athletic directors, coaches, or whatever their titles are– who knew for TEN YEARS and didn’t go to the police — in the face. And maybe do a little kicking in another place too.
Sure, you hear that, you go to your supervisor and you tell them, that’s great, but if they don’t do anything about it, you have a moral obligation to that child (or in this case, the many children) to go to the police. Football is like at a negative 50 on a scale where child abuse is involved.
And to you Penn State students who riot in protest. Seriously? Seriously! Joe Paterno deserved to get fired. He deserves to go to jail. It’s football, a stupid, silly game. These are innocent children. I’m mad.
I certainly don’t know all of the facts and am not claiming to. This is just one mom’s opinion about the Penn State scandal.
