And the green grass grows
all around, all around. And the green grass grows all around.
I love this mower. We’ve had it for 7 years and it’s been awesome. Our first house had zoysia grass and in the heat of the summer we had to mow that thing 3-4 times a week.
If my memory is correct, in that seven years we never changed the air filter or the oil. We just kept on adding more oil when it would get low. One time we did have my dad sharpen the blades (Thanks, Dad!), but really I think that’s about as far as we got servicing this poor thing.
When we moved to our new house it had quite a bit bigger lawn — it was more than double our old lawn! And, boy could we tell. The first time I mowed I decided to mow the back corner last and the dang mower ran out of gas. So I had to walk back to the garage and get the gas can, then walk all the way to the back corner of the yard, fill up the mower. THEN, I had to walk the gas can back to the garage and then go back out to the mower and finish mowing.
Yep, all the way back there by that white electrical box! Why in the world I decided to mow that back corner last is beyond me.
This year as spring rolled around, Preston said we were gonna get our trusty Honda serviced. He changed the oil. Cleaned the air filter (apparently you can just pull that thing off and blow it out with an air compressor – who knew?). And sharpen the blades.
Boy was I impressed. I didn’t really expect that to change much, except maybe give me a little better mowing time. I was averaging 1.5 hours mowing the dang thing.
Friday I started that puppy up and boy did it sound good. I decided to do the smart thing and start by mowing very far back corner first. I got all around the house and ended at the front of the house — ideal spot, less walking when the mower runs out of gas. Funny thing, the mower never ran out of gas. I even had some left in the tank. Hmm, interesting.
Me: Hey! Our mower is more fuel efficient now! I totally mowed the whole yard and there’s still some gas left in the tank!
Preston: Eh, it’s probably just because I filled the tank really full.
Oh Preston! That guy never gives himself any credit.
I love you Honda mower and your newly serviced self!
