How to relax in 15 minutes
Dinner time is the worst.
More specifically that time right before dinner time is the worst. It’s that time when everyone is yelling about something. I’m hungry. I’m thirsty. I don’t like this. I want a pop tart. My toe hurts.
And I can’t focus when people are yelling at me, so I start to yell.
After 9 years of yelling, I finally realized why I’m constantly in a state of stress. When the kids are awake, they’re yelling at me. When the kids are in bed, everything else is yelling at me.
The dirty dishes are yelling at me.
The laundry on the couch is yelling at me.
And the toys on the floors are yelling at me.
Can everyone and everything please STOP YELLING AT ME!?!
This constant state of stress-yelling has taught me that I suck at the work, mom, wife, life balance and I need a break.
So, I walked out the door and left all of the yelling behind (my husband was there, I promise).
I walked. And walked. And walked. And breathed. And sighhhhhh relaxed. Finally.
So when all of the yelling starts in… (The kids. The laundry. The dishes. The toys. Whatever your yelling may be.) just walk out that door and leave it behind, if only for 15 minutes.
That short 15-minute break will give you more patience than a daycare teacher in a room of potty-training toddlers.
And, if you don’t like walking, lock yourself in a closet with a bag of Snickers for 15 minutes. A break is a break. No judging here.
What’s your favorite 15 minute break?
