The real fake stuff
I’m back. BzzAgent Blendra, that is. I love candy. Love it. I was pretty excited when I was invited to a BzzAgent campaign on candy. Woohoo! Yes, indeed you can, send me free candy! It was called UNREAL™ candy and I was intrigued. I’ll have to admit, I thought their website was pretty cool. I couldn’t wait to get the candy.
Then I got a lousy coupon in the mail for one tiny bag of candy. They only had four different kinds of candy, come on! I’m not one be greedy here, but I only get one coupon?? The candy can’t be that expensive, can it?
I got to the store and I go to the most obvious aisle, the candy. No UNREAL™ here. Hmm. Guess I’ll ask. An end-cap by the frozen foods? Weird. Oh well, I guess it’s new, maybe that’s how they’re advertising. 89 cents a bag. Not too bad, seems pretty comparable, I guess. It was only a tad smaller than your average candy bar.
But, now I had to choose which one. I decided to go for the chocolate candy shelled peanuts, since I had a nice stash of peanut M&Ms at home. I thought I’d do a comparison.
The colors are an obvious difference, but UNREAL™ doesn’t used dyes, they use foods as dye. So, the muted colors make perfect sense. I would rather have my child eating a food colored with beet to make it red, rather than a red food coloring. UNREAL™ you get one point. It was a smaller serving size, but in healthier foods, it’s common to be more expensive. I can let that slide too.
The taste was pretty good. First impression was great. I thought, “hmm, I could eat these.” But then as I walked into the other room there was a slight aftertaste. Not terrible, but it was there.
I decided to let my husband decide.
Me: Hey, try these, tell me what you think?
Preston: Not bad, I guess.
Me: Well, what do they taste like?
Preston: Generic peanut M&Ms.
I’d say overall, this was the most unimpressed I’ve been with a BzzAgent campaign. I really wished they would have splurged and given me one free coupon for each kind of candy. There were only four (and they were only 89 cents each). And, the lady at the store couldn’t even get my coupon to scan, so I actually ended up paying tax on the candy. Boo. It was a dark purple coupon with a black barcode, could have been an issue there. Who knows.
Anyone want some coupons for UNREAL™ candy? I have some buy one get one free ones. They did send me some of those. I’ll stick with the real peanut M&Ms®, fake stuff and all.
